Burrinjuck (Cave Flat)

Cave Flat is after the Yass turnoff on the fwy now known as Burrinjuck Dam. This is not far from Canberra Australia’s Capital City .

These were dry caves until the Dam was built and the valley was flooded.The water depth in these caves changes due to the Dam levels raising and falling. There is a good camping area on site or big cabins to hire. This lake is a very popular fishing area.

The formations in these black limestone caves are WHITE so they stand out. The main caves are in an Island in the middle of the Lake so you need a boat to get to them.In a drought you can drive a 4×4 out to the island. You can hire a boat from the camping ground office but you need to book one. You need to find out the water level and vis before you plan your trip.

Dive Locations in Burrinjuck (Cave Flat)

CF19

We entered CF19 during the 2003 drought in Feb. We crawled into it to find a dry base. As with most caves around this island ,they need to be dug out.Suitable only for dry caving at this time.

CF17

We entered CF 17 in the drought of 2003 .This cave is very small and needs to be cleaned out if any leads are to be found. Dry caving only.

We entered CF16 during the 2003 drought in Feb. We crawled into it to find a dry base. If you’re keen you could have a dig.Suitable only for dry caving.

CF15

CF 15 cave is very tight, it’s not worth putting the dive gear on for this one.We did it dry in Feb 2003. Another cave worth a look when it’s dry. This cave needs a dig ,it may lead to main cave.

CF14 Cave

CF 14 has been dived and dry caved by other groups. It’s a small cave and It’s worth a look when dry, maybe a dig! This cave is rumoured to lead to Main Cave.
